The Madison County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO) issues an evacuation as a precautionary measure because of the Quaker Run fire.
The Virginia Department of Forestry (VDF) and local firefighters reports the continued work to contain the fire in Madison County.
The evacuation recommendation is a precautionary measure for the residents north of Route 681 in Madison County.
Crews are working to expand the containment lines as the fire continues to expand into the Shenandoah National Park as well.
Currently no structures have been damaged and firefighters continue to try to maintain that situation.
The fire has consumed approximately 2,480 acres with it breaching some of the fire lines surrounding it.
Firefighters and helicopters continue to work the fire including dumping water from above.
Projections indicate that the fire will require two or more additional weeks to completely extinguish the fire, including clean up after.
The Shenandoah National Park reports that the fire has caused a power outage that has shutdown Big Meadows Lodge for the season.
The Rapidan Tract of the Rapidan Wildlife Management area closed last week.
The Whiteoak and Old Rag sections have smoke cautions up for the immediate future.
Local fire departments caution that smoke from the fire will infiltrate some areas and those with raspatory illnesses should continue to be cautious.
