FRLL celebrates 75 years with upcoming Opening Day

Front Royal Little League’s Opening Day at Gertrude Miller Park is coming up Saturday, April 11th at 10 am and this season marks 75 years as an official Little League organization in the town.

Front Royal Little League is still in search of members or family members representing past state championship teams from 1953, 1960, and 1961.

Representatives are asked to join the other team members and representatives along the third base bullpen for the Major League field at 9:40 am on Opening Day.

The 2025 State Champions will also be in attendance.

During the Opening Day ceremonies, there will also be a special gift unveiled at the ballpark and a guest speaker, Ryan Rutherford.

FRLL’s play-by-play commentator will look back at the incredible run from last year’s champions from his perspective in the booth and wish this year’s group of little leaguers the best of luck in their upcoming season.

Following the opening ceremonies, supporters are invited to root on the teams competing throughout the day.

Shenandoah Valley teams claim three State Championships, three Runner-Ups

Congratulations to all our local high schools that represented the Shenandoah Valley with pride during the VHSL Basketball State Championships in Richmond over the weekend.

Three of the six teams claimed state titles including the Luray boys, Clarke County girls, and Handley boys.

In Clarke County’s 67-55 win over Union, senior Alainah McKavish claimed the school’s all time scoring record and bookended her career with a second state title after winning as a freshman.

Handley got over the hump after previously going 0-4 in State Championship games to claim the first trophy in their 103 year history, 61-42 over Hampton.

Luray brought home their first State Trophy in 50 years after a double overtime win over Fort Chiswell 84-82 and overcame Fort Chiswell’s Owen Jackson scoring a state championship record 53 points.

The Luray girls, Central boys, and Skyline girls were named State Runner-Up at VCU and we also congratulate them on incredible seasons.

Strasburg State Championship game highlights

Strasburg High School defeated Glenvar in the VHSL Class 2 State Championship game Saturday, 49-27, at Salem Stadium.

The win marked the Rams first football state title in school history after going winless in the first 5 tries including last season.

Coach Tripp Lamb’s team was led all year by a ferocious offensive and defensive line.

The trenches helped Strasburg to a win by tallying over 300 yards rushing and pressuring Glenvar’s quarterback Brody Dawyot, the all time passing touchdown record holder in Virginia.
