The Luray Fire Department (LFD) announced their gratitude to the community for their support in obtaining 16 self-contained breathing equipment.

The purchase of the essential and mandatory life saving equipment was made possible by the community’s support as well as the support of the Stanley Volunteer Fire Department Auxiliary.

The previous air packs were purchased in 2007 with help of a state grant which was not available this year.

The 2007 air packs were in need of replacement by the end of this year.

Several fundraising activities have been going on officially since mid-April with fair food events and the upcoming May 18 truck and tractor pull.

These events and others will help raise funds to purchase additional air packs.

Volunteers have been trained and those 16 initial air packs were officially put into service April 28.

Donations are still being accepted to help to purchase additional packs here.

LFD Treasurer Tim Lansberry told us that the 32 air packs the department hopes to acquire will cost over $337,000.
