What are you afraid of. We’ve had this discussion in past Fun Facts, but I continue to be amazed at the number of phobias there are. For instance, phobophobia. This is a fear of phobias. The fear of fear itself, but more specifically, of the internal sensations associated with that phobia and anxiety which binds it closely to other anxiety disorders, especially with generalized anxiety disorders. Phobophobia differentiates itself from other kinds of phobias by the fact that there is no environmental stimulus. It’s not like a fear of snakes, brought on by seeing a snake. This phobia is all in your mind, being anxious that something may cause an anxiety attack, which causes the person to be anxious and the cycle begins. Treatment of this phobia is tricky, but one method is to produce an anxiety attack in the patient and teach them breathing and mind techniques to help them work their way though the attack.
