The opening of the 1887 time capsule was not what was expected

According to ABC News the opening of the 1887 time capsule did not contain what was expected.

The capsule was found in the pedestal of the Richmond Robert E. Lee Statue and was expected to contain 60 items including a picture of Abraham Lincoln in his coffin.

When the capsule was opened three books an envelope and a coin was all that was found.

A rust colored 1875 Almanac was in the box along with other books.

A tattered pink covered copy of Huguenot Lovers: A Tale of the Old Dominion by Collinson Pierrepont Edwards Burgway was also in the box.

There also appeared to be a pamphlet that made reference to a water power facility for a city south of Richmond.

All the items have been storied to ensure their preservation until further study can be done.

Historians believe the actual historical time capsule that has been written about may still be in the pedestal.
