Area HS Recap, Nats Fall To Mets, Cantlay Wins BMW

In area high school football over the weekend, Strasburg beat Skyline 14-8, Clarke routed Warren County 34-6, Wood beat Sherando 34-20, Handley dominated Rock Ridge 48-0, Millbrook fell to Jefferson 55-23, Central beat Page 49-15, and Luray blanked Stonewall Jackson 66-0.

On Saturday, the Baltimore Ravens won their 20th consecutive preseason NFL game, in a 37-3 domination of the Washington Football Team. The WFT, who elected not to play any starters, now prepares for their regular season opener against the Chargers on September 12th.

The Washington Nationals dropped a 9-4 decision to the New York Mets yesterday. Josh Bell had 2 hits and drove in 3 for the Nats, who start a series with the Phillies tonight. Air time is 6:40 on Sports Radio 1450.

Tampa Bay outslugged the Orioles 12-8, despite a 4-for-5 afternoon by Ryan Mountcastle. The O’s travel to Toronto tonight for a 7:07 first pitch.

And it took 6 playoff holes, but Patrick Cantlay beat Bryson DeChambeau to win the PGA Tour’s BMW Championship outside Baltimore. With the win, Cantlay secures the top spot in this weekend’s Tour Championship.
