Front Royal awards annual scholarships

The town of Front Royal Town Council announced the recipients of their annual scholarships.

Anthony Carter and Ian Hoelsher who are both seniors at Warren County High School each received a scholarship.

Senior Jocelyn Moyer of Skyline High School was also a recipient.

Each senior received a $1,000 scholarship which is awarded each year by the Front Royal Town Council.

Applications for scholarships usually open in Feb. and can be found here.

The scholarship are awarded to students looking to further their education as an undergraduate or in a trade school.

Grottoes honors their former Police Chief Painter

The town of Grottoes celebrated at the Chief Charlie’s Kid’s fish day led by the Grottoes Police Department with the announcement of the renaming and re-dedication of Mountain View Park.

The park will now be known as the John E. Painter Park in honor of Grottoes’ former Police Chief John E. Painter who served the town for 18 years as an Officer, Sergeant and Police Chief.

Chief Painter made the ultimate sacrifice with fellow Officer and friend J. J. Jefferson on February 1 defending Bridgewater College Campus from a gunman.

The Grottoes’ Town Council unanimously adopted the resolution to rename the park and honor Chief Painter in a special session.

Council members acknowledged that Chief Painter will forever live in their hearts and they  will continue his legacy in honor of his dutiful service to the Grottoes community.

Town of Front Royal seeks replacement councilperson

A town of Front Royal news release announced the search for a councilperson.

Applications are being accepted by Front Royal from citizens interested in serving on the council through Apr. 21.

The seat became available due to the sudden resignation of Councilman E. Scott Lloyd who announced his resignation Mar. 28.

The term for his replacement will expire upon the oath being administered to Lloyd’s replacement from a special election to be held in Nov. 2022.

The person elected will serve the rest of Lloyd’s term which expires Dec. 31, 2024.

Public Power Week in Front Royal

Front Royal joins over 2000 other communities with locally owned, not for profit electric communities in celebrating Public Power Week.

Town Council acknowledged the Energy Services Department at a recent meeting for their service to the community for 123 years.

The Energy Services Department has been able to support itself and cover all operational costs through their rate structure.

Candidates Forum : Chamber of Commerce

The Front Royal-Warren County Chamber of Commerce will hold a Candidates Forum on Thursday, October 21st at the Warren County Government Center beginning at 7 p.m.    

The event will include separate forums for Board of Supervisor, School Board, and Town Council candidates

These forums offer community members an opportunity to hear local candidates answer issue-based questions and gain insight to the candidate’s goals should they be elected.   The public is encouraged to attend, the forums will also be live-streamed and available for replay following the program.

Candidates will answer questions posed by the forum moderator.  All questions will have been submitted in advance.  Audience questions will not be taken at the event.  Only questions that are issue-based and are relevant to all candidates will be posed.  The public may submit questions for consideration to info@frontroyalchamber.com or by mail to 201 E. 2nd Street, Front Royal, VA 22630.
