New traffic pattern begins today Oct. 4 on Rt. 522 in Frederick County

Starting today Oct. 4 drivers need to be aware of a new traffic pattern in the area of the Opequon Creek Bridges in Frederick County.

Traffic will be restricted to a single lane in each direction using the northbound bridge just south of Route 644 on Route 522 Front Royal Pike.

The new bridge will be in the same location as the old bridge but will be slightly higher and wider.

The roadway approaches will be widened with new guardrails a six foot wide shoulder will be provided on the right side of the new bridge as well.

The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) expects the new bridge construction to last about a year weather permitting.

VSP investigate a fatal accident in Fauquier County

Virginia State Police (VSP) report an unidentified motorcyclist was killed while evading police on Route 29 in Fauquier County.

While being chased the motorcyclist lost control and struck two vehicles.

The motorcyclist died at the scene no one else was injured in the incident which remains under investigation.

VDOT promises a clear cruise holiday weekend

The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) is promising a Clear Cruise this Memorial Day weekend.

To make travel safer and easier VDOT will suspend most highway work zones and lift most lane closures on interstates and major roads from noon Friday May 28 until noon Tuesday June 1.

Motorist may still encounter semi permanent work zones and you are asked to plan ahead to ensure safe travels.

Rail work causes road closures in Frederick County

Railroad work starts today May 20 in Frederick County causing street closures.

Today May 20 Stephenson Road Rt. 664 will be closed for track repair the road should reopen tomorrow May 21.

Redbud Road Rt. 661 will close May 24-28.

Crews will be replacing ties in the tracks then surface the track and put rubbers back in and pave it at both locations.

Rt. 522 shutdown in both directions Sunday night

Route 522 was shutdown in both directions last night Sun. May 2 as utility crews and authorities cleared an accident near the Winchester City limits.

The accident occurred at approximately 9 p.m. near Fairmont Ave.

Multiple power lines and poles were knocked down causing power outages for approximately 8 hours.

The accident remains under investigation.
