News Maker Mike St. Jacques on the conflict in Ukraine

Lord Fairfax Community College becoming Laurel Ridge Community College’s Professor Michael St. Jacques offered a special presentation last night Mar. 3 in Middletown.

Professor St. Jacques is the Assistant Professor of History at the school and served in the Ukraine and Russia for 3 years.

We spoke with Mike about the presentation in our latest news maker.

LFCC offers a program on Ukraine and Russia tomorrow 3/3

Laurel Ridge Community College formerly Lord Fairfax Community College (LFCC) announced a program on the Ukraine Russian conflict.

The presentation features Professor Mike St. Jacques who spent time in both the Ukraine and Russia.

Professor St. Jacques will discuss Russia Putin the Ukraine and what is going on currently.

Why it is happening and the historical context of the situation.

The event will be held at the Middletown Campus Room number 145 with the public welcome to attend.

The discussion including an answer and question period will also be offered by zoom at lfcc.edu/Ukraine.

Professor St. Jacques will be featured tomorrow morning Mar. 3 at 8:30 in our next news maker segment.

Gov. Youngkin orders decisive action to support Ukraine

An email from Governor Glenn Youngkin orders immediate action to support the Ukraine in light of the invasion.

The governor ordered an immediate review of state procurement of any and all goods and services involving Russian Companies.

Youngkin has ordered the Department of General Services to review all contracts across government.

The review will determine what if any Virginia tax dollars are spent on goods and services to primarily Russian companies.

Norfolk and Roanoke mayors have been told to end sister city partnerships with Russian cities.

The Virginia Retirement System Board of trustees and university endowment funds have been told to divest any and all holdings of the Russian Ruble and any securities of Russian Companies.

Sen. Warner’s remarks on Ukraine Russia

An email from Virginia Senator Mark Warner relays his statement on Russia’s invasion of the Ukraine.

Senator Warner, Chairman of the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence, calls the actions of Russia’s illegal invasion of Ukraine’s territory a tragedy.

The senator went on to say in the email the actions bring decades of peace to an end.

Warner is calling for a united front from all sides of the aisle and Atlantic to demonstrate that the aggression will not go unpunished.

The senator went on to say we must bolster the defense of our NATO allies while exploring ways to help the Ukrainian people.

Warner went on to say that Russia will pay a steep cost for Putin’s reckless ambition in blood and economic harm.
