FDA issues a recall of candies in Virginia

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) issued a warning and recall of contaminated candy in Virginia at their website.

Mars Wrigley candy makers are also voluntarily recalling several types of candy as they may be contaminated with thin strips of metal.

Candies affect by the recall include Skittles, Starburst and Lifesavers gummies.

The FDA and Mars Wrigley warn that very thin metal strands may be embedded in the candies or loose in the bags.

Several consumers alerted the company to the problem with no injuries reported so far.

Mars Wrigley confirmed the products were manufactured by a third party and distributed in the United States, Canada and Mexico.

Anyone who believes they have purchased a recalled item should dispose of the product.
