Aerospace company selects VA as rocket launch site

Governor Glenn Youngkin announced that Firefly Aerospace has selected Virginia as the new launch site for its orbital Alpha rocket.

Firefly Aerospace plans to launch Alpha in 2025 from the Virginia Spaceport Authority’s location on Wallops Island.

The Alpha rocket provides responsive, reliable launch services for commercial, civil, and national security missions with the capability of launching more than 1,000kg into low-Earth orbit in 24 hour notice.

Bill Weber, CEO of Firefly Aerospace said, “Governor Youngkin and his teams at Virginia Spaceport Authority and the Virginia Innovation Partnership Corporation are great partners as we expand Firefly’s launch services for both Alpha and MLV. Their support is enabling greater launch schedule flexibility while simultaneously creating new, high-tech jobs in Virginia.”
