VSP investigate fatal crash in Shenandoah County

Virginia State Police (VSP) report by email the investigation of a two vehicle fatal crash that occurred January 29 in Shenandoah County.

At 6 p.m. on Interstate 81 mile marker 289 a Ford F350 traveling north had the driver’s side tire blow out.

The blow out caused the truck to run off the road and over turn colliding with a guardrail.

A backseat passenger was ejected from the vehicle and was thrown into the the line of traffic where a Kenworth tractor trailer struck him.

Wilson R. Acosta Zelaya of Springfield Virginia who was not wearing a seatbelt became the victim in the crash.

The 21 year old was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The driver of the Ford, Pedro Lemus Mendoza of Manassas was transported to the hospital for treatment of minor injuries.

Two other adult passengers of the Ford were also transported to the hospital for minor injuries.

All three of those victims were wearing their seatbelts. The driver of the Kenworth, Fernando Sanchez Marin of San Joaquin Mexico stopped immediately after the collision.

Marin was uninjured in the crash.
