Fun Fact May 20, 2021.

I’m wearing a pair right now, and I’ll bet you have at least one pair in your closet.  I’m talking about blue jeans.  It was on this date in 1873 that businessmen Jacob Davis and Levi Strauss received a patent to create work pants reinforced with metal rivets.  First known as “waist overalls” they were sewn by seamstresses in their homes in and around San Francisco.  By the 1880’s Strauss opened a factory to produce the “XX” brand of blue jean, which would become the iconic and best selling 501 brand in 1890.  By the 1920s, Levi’s denim waist overalls were the top-selling men’s work pant in the United States.
