A Woodstock Police Department (WPD) social post warns of a scam being reported by some local businesses.

A person impersonating a WPD Officer or Shenandoah County Sheriff’s Deputy has been calling local businesses.

The person claims to be investigating either a counterfeiting scheme or similar crime.

An employee is then asked to manipulate the money in the cash register in some manner.

If you receive a call like this authorities ask that you hang up and call the agency the caller claims to represent to confirm the call.

The WPD ask that if you do receive a call like this or have questions call the dispatch center at (540) 459-6101 and ask to speak to an Officer or Deputy.
