Confirmed rabies case in Warren County

Used by permission by the Warren County Office employee Sergeant Terry Fritts

On September 14th, Warren County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of a sick or injured cat on Oregon Hollow Road.

Upon arrival, officers discovered a caged feline and several other cats on the property.

They observed signs of a possible rabies infection in the caged cat and transported it to a local veterinary clinic.

The staff agreed with the observations, and it was humanely euthanized.

On September 20th, the Sheriff’s Office was notified that the samples sent for testing were positive for rabies.

The Warren County Health Department is urging residents to have their pets vaccinated for rabies and avoid unfamiliar animals.

Rabies warning for Front Royal

The Lord Fairfax Health District has issued a rabies warning for Front Royal.

The warning is due to the discovery of a raccoon with rabies on April 17th near the Royal Arms Apartments.

The raccoon is no longer a threat to the area but if you believe that you, your children, or a pet came in contact with that raccoon, they should call the Warren County Health Department immediately.

Any bite, scratch, or lick from an animal with rabies can lead to exposure.

The health department also issued a reminder to stay away from wild animals and keep your pet’s vaccines up to date.
