Former PCHS baseball coach and World Series Champion passes away

Former Page County High School baseball coach and World Series Champion Harry “Wayne” Comer, 79, passed away on Wednesday at his home in Shenandoah.

Comer was a graduate of Page County High School’s inaugural class in 1962 and signed by the Washington Senators that same year.

He also played for the Seattle Pilots, Milwaukee Brewers, and won the 1968 World Series with the Detroit Tigers.

He later returned home to Page County where he coached the baseball team from 2009 until May, earlier this year.

Comer was an inaugural member of the school’s Hall of Fame and led the team to a Class 2 State Championship in 2018.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm Friday, October 6, 2023 at Kyger Funeral Home in Elkton.

New Life Gospel Church in Shenandoah will host the funeral service at 2:00 pm on Saturday, October 7, 2023.
