The Jefferson High School Symphonic Band was named the West Virginia High School Concert Band for 2024, the highest achievement attained by a high school band in the state.

This is the 7th time since 2011 the ensemble has received the prestigious designation.

Bands from across the state compete annually for the title by submitting recordings of three separate pieces representing different musical stylings to a panel of judges selected by the West Virginia Music Educators Association.

The band began preparing for the January 26th audition in December and will perform at the Charleston Civic Center on March 1st during the annual Educators Association Conference.

Director of Bands JP Lynch said, “Despite the time constraints, they practiced extra hard on their own so that our submission was ready by the deadline. I am humbled and grateful to work with such dedicated students. They never back down from a challenge that I put before them.”
