State Agencies offer advice on bird deaths

emergency funding for homeless

The Virginia Department of Wildlife Resources, National Park Service and other agencies continue to study the cause of bird deaths in the region.

In the meantime they ask that we cease feeding birds and cleaning feeders and baths with a 10% bleach solution.

The cleaning will ensure that birds will not spread whatever is causing the phenomenon doesn’t contaminate other birds.

Should you have to handle dead birds you should wear disposable gloves and place the body in a sealable plastic bag.

Dispose of that bag in a outside household trash can.

Keep pets away from any dead birds as well.

If you encounter sick or dead birds contact your state or district wildlife conservation agency.
