Winchester Police investigate a carjacking incident

The Winchester Police Department (WPD) announced the investigation of a carjacking incident on Berryville Avenue.

Wednesday December 13 authorities reported to an attempted carjacking in the Berryville Avenue area around 3:40 p.m.

The owner of the vehicle reported that a male brandishing a knife approached his vehicle and began banging on the window and attempted to open the door.

When officers arrived, the assailant left the scene east bound on Berryville Avenue.

About a half hour later a witness reported a more successful carjacking from the McDonalds on Berryville Avenue.

The witness reported that a male with a knife ran up to the vehicle in front of her vehicle entered it and drove off.

Investigators were advised that the suspect was in a Sports Utility Vehicle.

That vehicle was found abandoned on the entrance ramp of Berryville Avenue from Interstate 81.

While investigating the vehicle a wallet with Identification was found.

Police are looking for 19-year-old Jason Diego Abarca of Hagerstown Maryland regarding the investigation.

Abarca is being investigated for possible carjacking and destruction of property.
