Rockland road bridge construction

Traffic Update

The Virginia Department of Transportation has announced its plans to construct a bridge on Rockland Road over the Norfolk Southern Railway.

The Rockland Road bridge project will improve the traffic flow reliability while accommodating future railroad needs.

The grade separation includes a bridge 220 feet long with a minimum vertical clearance of 23 feet over the tracks.

The bridge height will accommodate double-stacked freight containers.

Trains will pass underneath the bridge while Rockland Road traffic travels uninterrupted on the bridge.

The project will also improve the alignment of Fishnet Boulevard with the entrance to Rockland Park.

Rockland Road will be closed for the duration and traffic detoured via Winchester Road and Fairground Road.

Rockland Park will remain open to the public during construction.

The Warren County Sheriff’s Office wants the public to know it is strongly enforcing the posted speed limits.

Enforcement will take place in the county as well as surrounding towns.

This is in conjunction with the National Highway Traffic and Safety Administration’s (NHTSA) Obey The Sign Or Pay The Fine campaign.

The enforcement will be particularly strong where speed related crashes are more prevalent.

This includes John Marshall Highway, Remount Road, Winchester Road and Stonewall Jackson Highway.

This is where most speed related crashes occur the most in the county.

In 2015 over 9,000 lives were lost in speed related fatal crashes nationally.
