News Maker Les Veach on Healing Field of Honor

The Healing Field of Honor will open Thursday May 24 at Handley High School.

We spoke to Winchester Rotarian Les Veach of the Healing Field of Honor committee in our latest news maker.

Les gives a little history behind the event and how it has expanded to include anyone that you consider a hero.

He also tells us that every year they add something new.

Les also tells us that there is still time to honor a hero in your life and where the funds raised will be used this year.

Rotary and JHHS create Healing Field of Honor

Annual Community Grant

John Handley High School and the Winchester Rotary Club came together to create the Healing Field of Honor.

The spectacle in front of Handley High School will be open through Memorial Day.

The display features up to 1000 flags which each represent an individual and their story.

The flags can represent all types of heroes ranging from veterans and first responders to loved ones and personal heroes.

The event is free to attend and flags purchased on site will raise funds for the Winchester Rotary Charitable Foundation.

News Maker Dick Kent on tonight’s 5/27 Memorial Day Event

A flyover and skydivers will open the Memorial Day program at Handley High School tonight 5/27 at 6 p.m..

We spoke with Winchester Rotary Club President Dick Kent about the Healing Field of Honor event.

Dick talks about what they plan for tonight as well as the inspiration for the 5 day event.

Winchester Rotary looks to set up Field of Honor

Annual Community Grant

 The Rotary Club of Winchester with the National Colonial Flag Foundation is setting up a Healing Field of Honor at John Handley High School.

A flag display to honor men and women in the military, first responders and those wishing to memorialize a loved one.

The display will be over the Memorial Day weekend starting May 27 through May 31 then the flags will be given to the purchaser.

The Rotary would like to mount 1,000 flags on 8 foot poles that will be lit at night.

Flags are available for sponsorship with proceeds benefiting Winchester Rotary Charitable Foundation to help non-profits in the community.
