FCSO investigates a fatal accident at Winchester Speedway

The opening of the race season at the Winchester Virginia speedway was marred by the death of driver Jimmy Billmeyer of Baker West Virginia.

The Frederick County Sheriff’s Office (FCSO) responded to an accident Saturday night Mar. 19 at the track to assist and asses the incident.

The investigation revealed it was a freak accident according to an email from FCSO’s Lt. Warren Gosnell.

Billmeyer’s vehicle appears to  have suddenly jerked to the outside of the track colliding with another vehicle.

The impact caused Billmyer’s vehicle to bounce back onto the track to collide with another driver causing Billmyer’s vehicle to barrel roll into the inside wall landing on it’s  roof according to witnesses.

Emergency crews already at the track did everything they could but it appears that Billmyer’s death was immediate.

Gosnell’s email indicated no other injuries in the incident.

Billmeyer was a racing enthusiast of the You Can Afford Racing or U-C.A.R division.
