Teen surrenders after brief standoff
A teenager who threatened to shoot people at a home in the Regency Lakes community in Winchester surrendered after a brief standoff with the police on Thursday evening. Daniel Scott Simmons, 18, was involved in the incident that occurred near 2432 Berryville Pike. A relative called 911 stating Simmons was threatening those in the home as well as law enforcement. Simmons was carrying a .45 caliber semi-automatic pistol that was confiscated by police.
Simmons was charged with brandishing a weapon. He is due in Frederick General District Court at 10 a.m. on March 2. He was being held in lieu of a $3,000 bond at the Northwestern Regional Adult Detention Center on Friday night.
