The River 95.3 Wins Virginia AP Broadcasters Awards

The Shenandoah Valley’s own River 95.3/Sports Radio 1450 station was among the winners Saturday, April 21st, at the annual Virginia Associated Press Broadcasters Awards.

There were 370 entries total in the AP awards’ for 36 categories, with contestants coming from 29 different TV and radio stations across both Virginia and West Virginia. Among these, for the second year in a row The River 95.3/Sports Radio 1450 won best website for The Valley Today host Janet Michaels’ work on theriver953.com. Judges described the site as “well designed and visually attractive,” as well as “easy to navigate” with “good use of interactivity.”

The River 95.3/Sports Radio 1450 swept the local sports categories last Saturday as well. Mike O’Dell was awarded first place for Sports Play-by-Play, with judges crediting him for painting “a great picture of what is going on.” Best Sports Feature went to Randy Woodward and Clint DeHaven for their work on Sports Dogs After Hours.” Their program, which airs Thursdays at 7 p.m. on The River 95.3 and is available On Demand on theriver953.com, was credited for having “great production values” and “great energy and pacing.” Randy Woodward also won the big sports award for the night as well: Outstanding Sports Operation of the Virginias.
