The River 95.3 celebrates successful Camping for Hunger

24 November 2020 Covid19 Front Royal/Warren County News

On Saturday, The River 95.3 completed another successful Camping for Hunger week, raising food and money for Front Royal-Warren County CCAP.

The event raised over $8,400 in cash and gift card donations and over 6,000 pounds of food.

The donations provide CCAP with plenty of food to get through the next several months, even if there is a spike in demand due to the virus.

“By every measure, given the challenge of the pandemic, our community really came through this year,” said CCAP President Larry Elliott. “They provided exactly the level of support we needed and gave us a cash safety net to purchase more food as we need it in the months to come.”

The station would like to thank the sponsors, volunteers, contributors, and drop-off locations for Camping for Hunger 2020.

Daily sponsors: MEP; Rapphannock Electric Cooperative; Front Royal Federal Credit Union; Ramsey True Value Hardware; Bill Long’s Auto Care Clinic; and Bill Powers State Farm Insurance.

Drop-off locations: Aire Serv (Ray & Tina); Via Satellite (Scott); The Auto Care Clinic (Bill & Sandy)

Volunteers who helped pack boxes and man the bus: Shenandoah Communitarians & Ellen Aders who organized the volunteers; Zuckerman Metal for the weights; and C-CAP.

Major contributors: 1,448 pounds of food from Front Royal Christian School; 3,400 cans from RSW Regional Jail; 535 pounds of food from Boy Scout Troop #52; 250 pounds of food from Boy Scout Troop #53; and large cash donations from Jean’s Jewelers, Shenandoah Lodge and Athletic Club and the Warren County Veterinary Clinic.
