Train derailment in Morgan County; no injuries or chemicals reported
Morgan County West Virginia 911 operators received a call at 4:30 pm on Monday from CSX Advising to notify the authorities of a train derailment in the area of Low Line and Magnolia Road.
Numerous law enforcement, EMTs, Fire and Rescue, and Hazardous Materials teams were dispatched to the site.
Upon arrival at the scene, a perimeter was established for safety reasons, but no evacuation was requested.
Hazardous materials teams and CSX worked together to evaluate the area and determined that CSX would handle the cleanup of the incident.
All local first responders cleared the scene by 7:52 pm.
Preliminary investigations found that the derailed train included three empty cars, one car of dry cement, one car of calcium chloride, and four cars of sodium hydroxide.
The cause of the derailment remains under investigation.
There were no injuries to the train crew and CSX thanked local authorities for their swift response.
