United Way Launches One Black Dress Initiative

29 October 2017 News

The United Way of Northern Shenandoah Valley will be launching its new One Black Dress Initiative, a social media driven poverty awareness and fundraising campaign. Starting November 13th, participants will wear the same black dress (or suit or shirt) for five consecutive days, along with a dress daily sticker that reads “Ask Me About My Dress.” The goal is to invite a dialogue with friends and family about poverty awareness; advocates are encouraged to use their social media platforms to drive up donations for the ALICE (Asset Limited, Income Constrained, Employed) population and harness the power of the community.

Events surrounding the initiative will include “Annie” at Alamo on November 4th at 11 AM, Trivia Night at The Green Turtle on November 6th at 8 PM, and a wrap-up happy hour award ceremony for fundraising stars on November 17th at 5:30 PM.
