United Way NSV announces Community Impact Grant recipients

United Way of Northern Shenandoah Valley (NSV) announced its board of directors approved funding recommendations for the recipients of the 2020-2021 Community Impact Grant Program.

Through the program, United Way NSV will invest in 34 education, financial stability and health programs in Winchester City, Frederick, Clarke, Page and Shenandoah counties. In addition to the impact grants, United Way NSV plans to distribute more than $100,000 in donor designated funds to various agencies.

“It was important to us to find a way to continue this process despite the pandemic. We know that the future is very uncertain for many. Our local nonprofits will play a critical role in helping our community recover from the economic fall out of this pandemic. In addition to the COVID-19 Relief Fund, these funds will be disbursed to help to continue to provide key critical programs for our community.” Nadine Bullock-Pottinga, United Way President and CEO, said in a news release.

Big Brothers/Big Sisters of Harrisonburg & Rockingham, Community Care & Learning Center, Fremont Street Nursery, Health Families of Northern Shenandoah Valley, Reading Road Show – Gus Bus, Shenandoah Valley Discovery Museum and Winchester Day Preschool were selected to receive Education Impact Grants.

A Farm Less Ordinary, AIDS Response Effort Inc., Blue Ridge Habitat for Humanity, Blue Ridge Housing Network, Blue Ridge Legal Services, CHOICES, Faithworks, Family Promise of Shenandoah County, Highland Food Pantry Inc., Literacy Volunteers Winchester Area, Shenandoah Alliance for Shelter, Shenandoah Area Agency on Aging, The Laurel Center, The Salvation Army, and Winchester Area Temporary Thermal Shelter were selected to receive Financial Stability Impact Grants.

AbbaCare Inc., Blue Ridge Hospice, Child Safe Center CAC, Concern Hotline, DementiaMatters, Dental Clinic of NSV, Faith in Action (Wheels for Wellness), Healthy Families Shenandoah and Page County, Northern Shenandoah Valley Substance Abuse Coalition, Shenandoah Dental Clinic, Shenandoah Free Clinic and Sinclair Health Clinic were selected to receive Health Impact Grants.
