page county election coverage

An intense woods and brush fire reportedly continues to burn but is contained.

Firefighters from Shenandoah, Luray, South Warren and the Virginia Department of Forestry assisted with the effort to control the blaze.

The Stanley Volunteer Fire Department first reported to the fire near Dovel Hollow Road at approximately 6:25 Monday night Apr, 10 and worked until 7 a.m. Tuesday Apr. 11.

The fire is expected to burn for several more days with crews on hand to monitor and keep the fire contained.

Smoke is likely to be visible in several areas as the burn continues.

The exact cause is still to be determined but it is likely to have originated near and around an electrical generator.

Preliminary indications are that the fire has affected approximately 50 acres so far.

There were no injuries reported and several structures were saved from being burned in the firefight.
