VA. resident recognized by the American Heart Association

The Virginia News Connection reports that Virginia resident Megan Bucholz has been recognized by the American Heart Association.

Bucholz is a clinical transformation manager for Unified Women’s Healthcare and received the American Heart Association’s Heart Association’s 2022 Woman of Impact Award.

Bucholz struggled with COVID as well as a pulmonary embolism in 2021.

She was alerted by her smartwatch of an abnormal heartbeat.

Checking into the hospital doctors caught the issue and put her on medication before it could become worse.

Bucholz hopes that other women will learn from her experience and take a good hard look at themselves.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention heart disease is the number one cause of death among American women.

Bucholz maintains that a few simple steps can prevent heart disease including a healthy diet, regular exercise and regular doctor visits.
