Va Senators shine light on food insecurity

Senators Mark Warner and Tim Kaine joined 30 of their colleagues in a letter urging Congress to fight food insecurity.

The main focus was on child nutrition waivers.

The waivers are set to expire on June 30th and were originally part of the Families First Coronavirus Response Act.

They also urged for an expansion of community eligibility and the creation of a summer EBT program.

Food insecurity is heightened during the summer for children when they lose access to school meals.

The letter was also endorsed by numerous child care and health organizations like the YMCA, Boys and Girls Club, the American Heart Association, and Feeding America.
