VDF battles a fire that consumes 100 acres in Churchville

Sunday March 17 at approximately 11 :45 a.m. the Virginia Department of Forestry (VDF) and 9 different fire and rescue companies including Augusta Fire and Rescue responded to an outdoor fire in the Stover Shop Road area of Churchville.

Due to the strong winds the fire quickly spread to over 100 acres.

After working over 8 hours the fire was taken under control by firefighters.

Fire crews remain on hand to monitor the area for potential flare-ups.

Residents are urged to remain vigilant and report any signs of fire or smoke.

Virginians are reminded that the 4 p.m. Burn laws remain in effect in Virginia until April 30.

Outdoor fires are prohibited before 4 p.m. and should always be monitored with a nearby water source readily available.

Be sure to notify your local fire department that you plan a burn after 4 p.m. and the fire must be completely extinguished by midnight.
