VDH Dispels Rumors of Hepatitis A in Winchester Area
5 December 2018 Winchester Frederick County Clarke County News
The Virginia Department of Health is emphasizing that there is no hepatitis A outbreak in Winchester or Clarke County.
The organization sent out notices to the public on Tuesday after receiving several calls from concerned citizens. The VDH says that the confusion is likely due to recent media reports of an Applebee’s worker in Winchester, Kentucky that had contracted hepatitis A. This incident seems to have led to the spread of misinformation over social media. The VDH did emphasize, however that while people in the Winchester, Virginia region are not currently under threat of exposure, there is a precautionary vaccine to prevent the virus that typically provides life-long protection.
