An email from the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) announced the postponement of the sinkhole repair on 81.

The repairs of Interstate 81 North in Shenandoah County was scheduled to begin on June 8.

The work was postponement by the impending inclement weather that was predicted.

Rain can hamper the laying of asphalt.

Most VDOT work is subject to weather conditions.

The sinkhole at mile marker 268 in Shenandoah County has been temporally patched and is  being monitored closely.

VDOT will announce a revised repair date once plans are finalized.

The repairs are expected to cause a shutdown of 81 between mile marker 266 and 269 for a possible couple of days.
