VDOT prepares for inclement weather

Traffic Update

The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) reports the treatment of roads with brine and weather proofing chemicals is and will be used on the roads before the weather strikes.

It was one year ago January 4 that Interstate 95 became a parking lot due to the snow and ice that struck.

People were stranded on the road in what started as a traffic crash compounded by snow and ice that brought the road to a standstill for almost 24 hours.

Travelers will want to be sure to pack emergency kits to keep in their vehicle throughout the winter.

Should you become stranded, things like warm clothing/blankets, flashlight, nonperishable foods, first aid kit and more could become a necessity.

An emergency travel kit check list is found here.

Of course if you don’t have to travel don’t.
