VDOT reschedules sinkhole repairs in Shenandoah County

A Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) news release announced the rescheduling of the sinkhole repair in Shenandoah County.

Motorist are asked to prepare for the work to Interstate 81 to begin at 7 p.m. June 22.

The work will cause at least one lane shutdown or it is possibly all northbound lanes will need to be shutdown.

The shutdown depends on the scope of work that needs to be done which won’t be known until excavation begins on Wed. and could last into Thur. June 23.

Motorist will want to pay close attention to signboards along 81 and stay informed with up to the minute information here.

Lane closures will begin at mile marker 266 to mile marker 269 on Interstate 81 northbound in Shenandoah County.

If total shutdown of lanes occurs motorist will be diverted to Route 11 north starting at exit 257 and reenter 81 at exit 269.

Exit 264 to Route 211 at New Market will be closed due to restrictions in size for trucks trying to access Route 11 north.
