The Virginia Department of Transportation says drivers in Frederick County should see improved traffic flow following the retiming of traffic signals at
21 intersections. The changes include six intersections on Route 277, Fairfax Pike, between Route 11 in Stephens City and Warrior Drive; six
intersections on Route 522, North Frederick Pike, between Indian Hollow Road and Westminster Canterbury Drive/Rivendell Court; and nine
intersections on Route 11, Valley Pike, between Renaissance Drive and Shawnee Drive, including intersections near Route 37 and the Interstate 81
ramps. VDOT says the adjustments are intended to reduce delays and fuel consumption while also improving safety and reducing rear-end crashes. The
signal-timing project covered corridors in three Shenandoah Valley counties and cost approximately $460,000. Using 2025 dollar values, VDOT
estimates the improvements will produce more than $2.7 million in annual savings from reduced travel time, fuel consumption and vehicle emissions.
