VDSS warns of an P-EBT/EBT cardholder scam

The Virginia Department of Social Services (VDSS) is warning both Pandemic Electronic Benefit Transfer (P-EBT) and Electronic Benefit Transfer (EBT) cardholders of a scam.

The Virginia Client Customer Service Helpdesk does not call cardholders and ask for their card number or PIN number.

Some cardholders have received a call from a 1-866 number ending in 0486 this is a Phishing Scam to be avoided.

Cardholders are being asked to enter their card and PIN numbers then asked to repeat the PIN once that is done the call is disconnected.

Cardholders are being told to not respond to any text or answer any call from 866-xxx-0486 that looks like it is from VA EBT.

Simply delete the text and decline any call from that number.

Client Customer Service Helpdesk will never call the cardholder and ask them to activate their card nor will they ask for their PIN number.
