9 August 2019 Winchester Frederick County News
The Virginia Employment Commission has announced plans to celebrate migrant farm workers in Frederick County.
The VEC will host Farmwork Appreciation Day on September 15, 2019, in an effort to honor the work of migrants who come to the Winchester area each year to pick apples, peaches, and other local products. The event will run from 12 p.m. to 3 p.m. at the Frederick County Fruit Growers Camp, and will feature entertainment, food, raffles and exhibits. VEC spokeswoman Kenia Brooks said in a release that “farm workers are vital to Virginia’s workforce and agricultural economy… we are grateful for them and welcome them to our community.”
