RICHMOND – Over $7.7 million in state grants has been awarded to support year-round and extended-year instructional programs in Virginia.
The Extended School Year Grant Program was created by the General Assembly in 2013.
A study found that students that perform poorly in school tend to improve faster through extended-year schooling programs rather than in schools that follow traditional calendars.
Several districts throughout Virginia will receive grants through the program. The districts were chosen based on need as identified through state accreditation ratings and performance on school quality indicators.
