Virtual Reality Included in Film Festival
November 12, 2019
STRASBURG – The second International Strasburg Film Festival will take place this weekend.
The Festival will include 88 films in total, one is a Cannes Film Festival award nominee and three involve virtual reality experiences. All of the screenings include films that are not normally found in commercial movie theatres.
The Shenandoah Film Collaborative is hosting the event. The VR experience films will involve headsets that viewers will wear throughout the film. The headsets will then be turned over to Shenandoah County Schools.
Another Day of Life is an animated documentary about the Angolan Civil War. The story stems from a book of the same name by Polish journalist Ryszard Kapuscinski. The film is actually a motion capture animation, which gives its more of a “real” feeling, but takes away from several of the violent scenes located in Kapuscinski story. The movie was nominated for the “Golden Eye” at the 2018 Cannes Film Festival, which is their prestigious award for best documentary.
Screenings for the Festival will be held at the Box Office Brewery and the Strasburg Town Hall. Friday screenings begin at 11 am, Saturdays start at 10 am and Sundays also begin at 11 am. Tickets can be purchased online at shenfilms.com or at the Box Office Brewery. Tickets are $3 per individual screening, $10 for a full day pass and $30 for a full weekend pass. Virtual Reality films will cost $5 each, even with a day or weekend pass.
