VSP are on patrol this holiday weekend because of increasing number of fatalities

Virginia State Police (VSP) remind motorist that every available uniformed personnel will be on patrol throughout the holiday weekend.

Labor Day weekend traffic fatalities have been on the rise for the past four years with last year being a record year for deaths on the roads.

It is imperative that motorists remain alert, stay sober and wear seatbelts on Virginia highways.

State Police will be conducting traffic safety and enforcement patrols as part of Operation CARE.

The Crash Awareness Reduction Effort is an effort to reduce traffic crashes, fatalities and injuries caused by impaired driving, speeding, failure to use restraints and driving distracted.

Authorities across Virginia will be out in force looking for offenses through midnight Mon.
