VSP investigate a Page County fatal pedestrian crash

Virginia State Police (VSP) report by email the investigation of  a fatal pedestrian crash in Page County.

At approximately 9:45 p.m. June 29 a Chevrolet Tahoe traveling south on Route 340 was unable to avoid striking a pedestrian attempting to cross the road near Springfield Road.

The pedestrian was not wearing reflective clothing and was struck.

The pedestrian, a Silver Spring Maryland resident, did not survive the impact while the driver of the Tahoe was left uninjured in the crash.

The decedent was identified as 30-year-old German A. Mercado-Mercado.

Route 340 remained closed in both directions for several hours June 29.
