VSP investigate an Officer involved shooting in Rockingham
An email from Virginia State Police (VSP) Information Officer Sergeant Brent Coffey confirms the investigation of an Officer involved shooting.
The incident occurred yesterday Apr. 7 around 9 a.m. in the Bridgewater Rockingham County area.
A Rockingham County Sheriff’s Deputy attempt to stop a vehicle was unsuccessful and a pursuit ensued.
Authorities disengaged their pursuit only to find the subject a short time later in the Spring Creek Road area of Bridgewater.
As authorities approached the vehicle 37 year old Christopher A. Miller exited with a gun and began firing at the Officers.
Returning fire the Officers shot and killed Miller.
Miller’s remains have been transported to the Office of the Medical Examiner in Roanoke for examination and autopsy.
Several patrol and a bystander’s vehicle were struck by gunfire fortunately there were no injuries to the bystander or Law Enforcers.
The incident remains under investigation by the VSP.
