VSP release their 2022 Thanksgiving Holiday report

Virginia State Police (VSP) report 14 individuals lost their lives during the 2022 Thanksgiving Holiday weekend.

During the 2021 Thanksgiving Holliday 5 people were killed on the Virginia highways in the traditionally 5 day long counting period.

Virginia State Police Superintendent Colonel Gary Settle noted that of the 14 fatalities 8 were not using seatbelts which could have saved some lives.

Settle urges everyone to use their seatbelts as we head deeper into a holiday travel season in which we already have 14 families grieving the loss of loved ones.

Over the 2022 holiday Troopers cited close to 500 people for seatbelt violations.

More than 4,400 speeders and just over 1,800 reckless drivers were cited.

Just short of 100 people were cited for driving under the influence of alcohol and or drugs.

Almost 1,450 traffic accidents were reported with 138 of those resulting in injuries.

With more holiday travel on the horizon Law Enforcement across the state will be on the alert and urge everyone to drive with caution.
