VSP/WVASP report high water rescues
Virginia and West Virginia State Police (VSP/WVASP) report making high water rescues.
Authorities are asking citizens to be alert and be mindful of high water and signs warning of such.
Swift Water Rescue Units from both states have had to rescue several stranded motorist and drivers.
In Amelia County, Virginia, one driver was rescued and had to be flown to Virginia Commonwealth University Medical Center for treatment of serious injuries.
In West Virginia Berkeley County Professional Firefighters report at least two rescues were performed by Swift Water Rescue.
In both those cases drivers purposely drove around Road Closure signs.
The result had both vehicles being pushed off the road and the drivers having to be rescued.
It will take time for flood waters to recede with every county in the listening area reporting at least one road being covered with water.
Meteorologist Kemp Miller reports that we will likely see more rain Friday January 12.
We could see snow after the weekend as well.
Authorities across the region are asking drivers to Turn Around Don’t Drown.
