W.VA. sees historic financial surplus

West Virginia Governor Jim Justice announced that the state’s General Revenue collections for April 2023 is a historic accomplishment.

The collections set a record for the largest single month revenue and personal income tax collections in the state’s history.

The month of April General Revenue collections are $319 million above estimates.

Personal Income Tax Collections totaled $192.8 million, also a single month record.

West Virginia’s Secretary of Revenue Dave Hardy noted that the numbers show a very healthy state economy with people working and making higher wages.

Governor Justice said he is proud of the state’s financial health and the hardworking people who helped put West Virginia in the current financial position.

The state is seeing a record year to date collection of more than $2.2 billion a full 9 percent ahead of prior year receipts.
