Warren County Democratic chairman to run in Virginia’s 6th Congressional District

RICHMOND, Va. (AP) — A Democrat from Front Royal is planning to run for Congress in a seat currently held by U.S. Rep. Bob Goodlatte.
Multiple media outlets reported that Tom Howarth has announced his candidacy for the 6th Congressional District.
Howarth is the chairman of the Warren County Democratic Committee and a former federal employee and consultant.
Goodlatte is seeking re-election and is facing a Republican primary challenger, Harry Greigo. 6th District Republicans will pick their candidate at June 14th primary.
Goodlatte, the current influential chairman of the House Judiciary Committee, was first elected in 1992 and has easily won re-election since. The 6th Congressional District stretches from the Shenandoah Valley to Roanoke along Virginia‘s western edge.
Howarth is the only Democrat to announce their candidacy thus far in the 6th. The deadline to file for consideration is Friday. 6th District Democrats will pick their nominee May 21st in Lexington.
