Warren County EDA Hosts Industry Roundtable
On Thursday, December 19, 2019, Warren County EDA Executive Director Doug Parsons hosted an Industry Roundtable luncheon for local business and industry leaders at the Virginia Inland Port. Nancy Price from the Virginia Economic Development Partnership (VEDP) and Jeanian Clark from Lord Fairfax Community College (LFCC) were the featured speakers. Price, Business Manager for the Business Retention and Expansion team at VEDP, spoke about the broad range of resources the Commonwealth of Virginia has to offer existing businesses. Clark shared the many workforce training resources LFCC can offer Warren County businesses.
Parsons explained that these informal gatherings are an important component of economic development work and one he enjoys facilitating. Getting local business and industry leaders around the table discussing issues of common interest and concern builds community. That sense of community is key to investing and growing the local economy. Turnout continues to grow at these quarterly events.
Parsons, along with Warren County Administrator Doug Stanley, was pleased to introduce the new Board of Supervisors members Cheryl Cullers, Delores Oates, and Walter Mabe to the attendees. They participated in the roundtable discussion and heard first-hand the opportunities and challenges local business leaders were experiencing, chief among them was the need for a qualified and experienced workforce. After the luncheon, they and the other attendees enjoyed a tour of the Virginia Inland Port from Operations Manager Lee Cranford.
