Warren County Public Schools Reconsiders Shorter Summer Break

22 June 2018 News

After receiving the results of a distributed survey, Warren County Public Schools is now moving away from a proposal to shorten summer break for students.

Originally designed to help struggling students, the proposal would have shortened summer vacation time from ten weeks to six or seven weeks, and had longer breaks throughout the school year during which remediation would be made available for those in need. However, responses from the survey showed that only 50% of teachers and just 40% of community members supported this change. District Superintendent Melody Sheppard was quoted as saying that the School Board would need a majority of stakeholders to be able to support the new measure. Because the school system was unable to garner that much support, it will be backing away from the proposal for now.
